What is the Institut de la statistique du Québec?
The Institut de la Statistique du Québec, also known as Statistique Québec, is a government organization whose mission is to produce, analyze and disseminate official, objective and accurate statistics on all aspects of Québec society.

Where did you get the name of my enterprise?
Your enterprise was selected randomly from the list of potato producers registered with the ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ). Producers from every Québec region are required to participate in this survey.

Is it mandatory to answer this survey?
The survey is required under the Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec (CQLR, Chapter, I-13.011). Your participation is important in order to establish as precise a profile as possible of the potato production situation in Québec. The reports produced on the basis of your responses provide the industry with invaluable indicators for optimizing the marketing of the harvest.

How can I be sure that no one has access to the answers I have given you?
The Act respecting the Institut de la statistique du Québec guarantees the confidentiality of all the information collected. Only the persons directly involved in this survey and duly authorized by the Institut de la statistique du Québec have access to the detailed results that are collected.

The entire staff of the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) is sworn before a commissioner and must maintain secrecy and confidentiality as regards the data collected.

Who receives the data?
The persons in charge of this survey at Statistique Québec, namely a restricted number of persons, have access to the results that you will provide. What is more, the results of the survey are sent to Statistics Canada which integrates them into its study on the Canada-wide production of potatoes.

However, it is important to note that when publishing survey results, all data are amalgamated to ensure respondent anonymity.

I have already answered the Statistics Canada survey, shouldn’t you contact them?
While Statistics Canada collects basic data on the production of potatoes, it is the Institut de la statistique du Québec who has the mandate to obtain the final and official data on production.

How can I access the survey results?
The data collected remain confidential. However, as soon as the results of the survey are available, you will be able to view them on our website, at www.stat.gouv.qc.ca, by clicking on the following headings: Statistics and Publications, Agriculture and Biofood Industry, Potatoes.

How can I be sure that you are from the Institut de la statistique du Québec?
You may contact Charles Alleyn at 1-800-561-0213 ext.3078.

Who is listening to our conversation and why?
It is possible that a supervisor might be listening to our conversation. As with everyone involved with the survey, this person swore before a commissioner of oaths to keep all the information and data in this conversation private and completely confidential.

The only purpose of listening to the conversation is to ensure the quality of the data being collected. This is a common practice among government statistical agencies. The conversations are never recorded.
