Québec Health Survey of High School Students (QHSHSS) 2010-2011

Survey type:  Cross-sectional survey; province-wide and regional estimates (health regions).

Target population: High school students in Secondary 1 to 5 enrolled in the youth sector, in Québec public or private, French or English schools, in the fall of 2010. Excluded were those in vocational training centres, schools located in administrative regions 17 (Nunavik) and 18 (Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James), schools where the language of instruction was an aboriginal language, schools not part of the school board network (i.e. under the authority of another department or the federal government), and schools comprising at least 30% of students who were handicapped, socially maladjusted or had learning difficulties (SHSMLD).

Sample: 63,196 high school students.

Major themes: Perception of health status; respiratory health; eating habits; sexual behaviours (14 years and over); weight and body image; dental health; cigarette smoking; alcohol consumption; drug use; work experience; leisure physical activity and as a means of  transportation; mental health; social competencies; school environment; family environment; peer characteristics; sociodemographic characteristics.
