Notice to User The Institut has made the microdata file
on the Enquête sociale et de santé 1998 (1998 Québec Health
and Social Survey) (ESS 98) available to outside analysts
and researchers. Under the terms of its policy on the use
of the microdata files on its surveys, the Institut had to
process the ESS 98 microdata file with a masking treatment
in order to reduce the risk of respondent identification.
To apply for access to the ESS 98 microdata
file, researchers must enter into a user contract. For help
in filling out the contract form, researchers may consult
various PDF documents on this site:
Special attention must be paid to the masking
so as not to limit the analytical potential of the file.
Users of the ESS 98 file should start off
by reading the Note on masking in the user
guide. The note sets forth the impacts of masking, some of
which can significantly affect some of the file variables.
Subsequently, the user, as regards the masking,
should consult the following sections:
- Notes explicatives sur les données modifiées (Explanatory
notes on the data modified) in the Code Book.
- Notices explicatives sur les indices modifiés (Explanatory
notes on the indexes modified) in Volume 2: Definition
and Composition of Indexes.
The tables in these two sections present
the data and indexes modified or removed following the masking
of the file. For more detailed information regarding the masking,
consult Appendix 9 of Volume 1 : Appendices.
