The International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey (IALSS) measures literacy skills, that is, some of the key skills required to function fully in society: knowing how to read, process and analyze written information. The IALSS was specifically designed to measure skills in prose literacy and document literacy, in numeracy and problem solving. The IALSS data collection was conducted in 2003 by Statistics Canada using a Canada-wide sample of adults aged 16 and over, including 4,166 respondents from Québec. The Québec report on IALSS first gives an overall portrait of the literacy skills of the Québec population from a comparative perspective: trends since the 1994 International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) and comparisons with the results of Canada and the other provinces. It also contains detailed information on several factors related to the literacy of adult Quebecers such as educational attainment, continuing education, income, job status, language and immigration status. The report also features the findings on literacy practices and the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs), two other aspects associated with literacy skills.
