The publication PIB et indice de concentration géographique de l’industrie des services financiers, Canada et provinces, données révisées 2010 provides a review of the interprovincial evolution of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the finance, insurance and financial leasing industry.
The breakdown of the GDP of the financial services industries by sector at the provincial level and the production of a geographic concentration index are some of the measures used to compare the development and the benefits of an industry in the economy.
The data used was obtained from Statistics Canada’s National Accounts. The Institut de la statistique du Québec made adjustments in order to extract, at the provincial level, the finance, insurance and financial leasing industry from the usual presentation grouping the finance and insurance industry with real estate, renting and leasing, and management of companies and enterprises industry.
This publication provides two data groups on GDP in the financial services industry by province, i.e. a version in current dollars covering the 1988-2008 period and another one featuring chained-dollar data at 2002 prices covering the 1997-2010 period.
The geographic concentration index is built using chained-dollar GDP at 2002 prices and also covers the 1997-2010 period.
