1. The average employment income of workers is obtained by dividing the sum of wages and salaries before deductions, gratuities, wage loss replacement benefits, and the net income of unincorporated businesses by the number of workers. The term "workers" refers to individuals with employment and business income as their main source of income.

It is important to note that, although they come from the same data source, the statistics on the employment income of workers presented in this table cannot be conceptually compared with the personal taxation statistics that are published annually by the ministère des Finances et de l’Économie du Québec (MFEQ) and are not intended for the same purposes. The indicators developed by the Institut from personal taxation data measure specific aspects of the labour market, in accordance with certain standards and practices adopted by national and international statistical agencies, while the taxation statistics published by the MFEQ aim to present an overview of the Québec personal income tax system.

Employment income of workers aged 25 to 64, as defined by the Institut, is the sum of all employment income (mainly composed of salaries and wages before source deductions, tips included on the RL-1 slip and commissions), correction of employment income, other employment income including wage loss replacement benefits, and net income from unincorporated businesses, minus employment expenses. In the statistics published by the MFEQ (summary tables 6-10 of the publication Statistiques fiscales des particuliers, année d’imposition 2009), employment income includes employment income, correction of employment income, other employment income, training allowances, and the net amount of research grants. It excludes net income from unincorporated businesses.

In addition, the statistics on the number, rate and employment income of workers produced annually by the Institut are reviewed periodically. This review is necessary in order to reflect the most current estimates produced from Revenu Québec’s taxation data
