| 1. The specialization index measures the degree of specialization in a scientific discipline of a given entity in terms of world science. It corresponds to the ratio of two proportions: the proportion of articles by an entity in a discipline divided by the proportion of articles in that discipline worldwide. Thus, a specialization index over 1 means that the entity studied is specialized in the discipline considered with respect to the world average, whereas an index of specialization under 1 means the opposite. |
