Subjects: prevalence and duration of breastfeeding (total, exclusive, predominant) and breastfeeding with complementary feeding for infants breastfed at least once in the first six months of life, the age when food and fluids other than breast milk are introduced.

Type of survey: general survey on the health of the target population.
Target population: population of the cultural communities aged 18 and over and their minor children residing in the regions of Montréal-Centre, Laval or Montérégie, having immigrated between 1988 and 1997 and belonging to one of the four groups of birth countries (1) China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao; (2) Haiti; (3) Arab countries in North Africa and the Middle East; (4) Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas.
Sample: 4,162 individuals from the four groups of birth countries are divided up as follows: 1st group: 950 persons; 2nd group: 1,068 persons; 3rd group: 960 persons; 4th group: 1,184 persons.

Sample: 3,148 mothers and 953 fathers with one or more children between 0 and 17 years of age.
Subjects: annual prevalence of violent parenting attitudes and behaviours, attitudes regarding discipline (according to mothers and fathers), link with spousal violence, trends observed over five years in the attitudes and practices of parents, factors associated with violent disciplining practices (according to mothers and fathers), social support (mothers and fathers).

Subjects: prevalence, frequency and gravity of violent behaviour toward spouses, controlling or humiliating behaviour, violent verbal or symbolic abuse, emotional consequences of violence, recourse to formal and informal resources, sociodemographic and economic characteristics of spouses, spouses and former spouses, presence of children during violent incidents, history of violence in families of origin, etc.
