Québec, May 20, 2015 – In 2014, Québec bookstores and digital warehouses processed orders for 506,000 e-books, which generated over $7 million in sales. These results come from the Digital Book Sales Survey conducted by the Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec (OCCQ) of the Institut de la statistique du Québec.
The average price of e-books in 2014 was $14.18. It was higher at the end of the year than at the beginning. The results also reveal that e-book sales were lower in the summer than in the winter.
The Digital Book Sales Survey collects information from Québec digital warehouses and, for e-books that are not sold through these warehouses, from Québec digital bookstores.
This information comes from the statistical bulletin Optique culture No. 41, which is available on the website of the Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec.
The Institut de la statistique du Québec produces, analyses and disseminates official, objective and quality statistical information on various aspects of Québec society. It is the statistical coordinator for Québec and the relevance of its work makes it a strategic ally for decision makers and all those wishing to learn more about Québec.
