This section presents the definitions and statistical sources used to prepare R&D indicators for the all sectors, business enterprise sector, higher education sector and government sector.

Special definitions

This section contains statistical definitions of gross domestic expenditures on R&D (GERD), R&D activities and R&D product and financing sectors.

Description of statistical sources

Data on R&D expenses was prepared by compiling survey results from annual investigations conducted by Statistics Canada and the Institut de la statistique du Québec. This section presents a short description of each of these investigations.
