The 1984 Québec economic activity classification (CAEQ) has not reflected Québec’s industrial structure for a long time now. This is why we strongly suggest that you not use it any more. Nevertheless, we are putting it at your disposal for reference purposes since certain computer systems and municipal bylaws or government regulations are based on it.
Instead of using the CAEQ, we recommend that you use the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS), which is the current universal system for classifying industrial activities throughout the North American continent. For further details on this classification, consult the Statistics Canada website at:
http://www.statcan.gc.ca/concepts/industry-industrie-eng.htm
The latest version of the NAICS came out in 2012. Previous versions were released in 2007 and 2002, and the first version dates back to 1997.
