International merchandise trade data are presented according to the following aggregation structure: the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS), 2007 version.

Please note that Statistics Canada is currently introducing significant changes to its international merchandise trade data. These changes relate primarily to:

  • the transition to the 2017 version of the North American Product Classification System (NAPCS 2017);
  • the new base year 2012 export and import price indexes (previously base year 2007); and
  • the historical revision of trade data to 1988.

For its part, the Institut de la statistique du Québec will be making changes to:

  • the method used for adjusting import data by province of consumption for Québec; and
  • the seasonal adjustment models used for import and export series and for international trade price indexes.

Historical data revised to 2012 will be released on December 19, 2018 with the monthly data for October 2018.

Revised data prior to 2012 will be disseminated as soon as possible during the winter of 2019.
