The purpose of this section is to support the main departments and agencies involved in prospecting foreign investment and promoting Québec abroad. The following sectoral statistical profiles deal with the sectors that are strategic in prospecting foreign investment for Québec:
The primary objective of the statistical profile of the aerospace industry is to position it internationally using comparable statistics. In the comparative study, a literature review lists various definitions of the aerospace industry in several countries and organizations. Based on the findings of the literature review, a method was chosen in order to compare Québec’s aerospace industry at the international level. Lastly, we analyse the international, North American, and Québec data for each of the indicators selected.
Life Sciences Sector
The literature review on the life sciences sector provides various definitions of the sector used by several countries and organizations at the international, national and local levels. It outlines the two key approaches used to define a sector, i.e. an approach based on an industrial classification and another based on a business directory. After that are presented empirical studies on the sector as well as the main indicators used to measure its performance.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Sector
The main objective of the ICT profile is to see, via comparable statistics, how Québec’s ICT sector compares internationally. In the comparative study, a literature review provides definitions of the ICT sector in several countries and organizations. A definition, based on the observations of the literature review, was chosen in order to measure the performance of Québec’s ICT sector and to compare it to performance in other jurisdictions. Unavailable data or the confidentiality of certain data required for the selected indicators steered the course of our work, meaning that the publication focuses on the overall ICT sector or solely on its main constituent industries. Lastly, we analyse data from selected Canadian provinces and U.S. states for each indicator selected.
