The scenarios of the 2014 edition of Perspectives démographiques du Québec et des régions – 2011-2061 offer a glimpse of the Québec population’s likely evolution based on recent trends.
In 2061, the population is projected to be between 8.5 million and 11.7 million, with a reference scenario of 10.1 million people. According to this scenario, population growth is expected to slow down, the annual growth rate going from about 0.8% in 2013 to less than 0.3% in the 2050s.
Though the specter of population decline has diminished in recent years, many demographic challenges are as relevant as ever. An aging population, renewal of the workforce, structural changes and regional distribution of the population are all issues which the Québec society still faces.
