Enquête québécoise sur le tabagisme chez les élèves du secondaire

Rapport d’enquête 2002. Où en sont les jeunes face au tabac, à l’alcool, aux drogues et au jeu?

This study is the third in a series of biennial surveys that began in 1998. These surveys aims to follow the evolution of smoking and other addictive behaviours among Québec high school students. This edition measures the changes that have taken place since 1998 in terms of smoking and since 2000 in terms of alcohol and drug use.

This report also provides the first detailed cross-sectional portrait of gambling in high school students. In addition, the prevalence of tobacco use among these students and a series of factors associated with taking up, maintaining, and dropping this habit are discussed. Finally, the report provides results on polyconsumption of psychoactive substances, problematic consumption of these substances, and problematic gambling.

The target population of the survey included all students in Secondary 1 through 5 enrolled in the youth sector in French and English, public and private high schools in Québec. In total, 4,771 students from 154 schools took part in the survey in the fall 2002.
