The report on the 1999 Enquête sociale et de santé auprès des enfants et des adolescents québécois deals with the physical and mental health and well-being of 9, 13 and 16 year olds. The survey contains information provided by young persons, their parents and school management and also looks into cardiovascular health and physiological measurements. This publication is divided into five sections: characteristics of young people and their living environments, relationships of young people with their environments, lifestyles, state of physical and mental health and social adjustment. Themes such as asthma, cardiovascular disease risk factors, accidents involving injuries, preventive measures in the field of sexuality, self esteem, parental emotional support, school-related aspirations, violence at school, physical activity, time spent watching television, obesity, etc. are touched on. Possible planning and intervention measures are given for each of the themes. In the winter and spring of 1999, 3700 children were surveyed in 182 elementary schools and high schools throughout Québec.
