This study draws on the data from the 2011 National Household Survey(NHS) to describe the population of university graduates in Québec. A continuation of two prior studies (2004 and 2009) based on 1996, 2001 and 2006 census data, this study differs from its predecessors in that it features fewer data comparisons over time.
In 2011, the NHS replaced the long form used for the Canadian census. While comparing NHS data with those from pre-2011 censuses is not always evident, it is possible to do so—by proceeding cautiously—with Québec university graduate data. A comparison framework, respected by the study, was prepared for this purpose.
The analysis draws on sociodemographic academic and labour force variables to paint a new portrait of Québec university graduates. It includes Canadian comparisons and meticulous analyses at the regional administrative level. The study also focuses on immigrants with a university degree.
