Même profession, salaires différents : les femmes professionnelles moins bien rémunérées

As part of the International Women’s Day, the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) releases an article comparing the hourly wages of men and women in the same occupation. Results relate to full-time workers in 2012 and are based on two data sources: the Labour Force Survey and the Enquête sur la rémunération globale. This multi-source approach enables an analysis from different angles of the relative wage of Québec women working full-time.

Three main findings emerge from this article. First, the results highlight that for all occupations, hourly compensation of Québec women and Canadian women has improved compared to their male counterparts over the past 15 years; Québec women fare better than Canadian women. Second, in professional jobs, according to the National Occupational Classification, traditionally female occupations are generally lower paying than those traditionally male. Finally, the two data sources show that wage gaps between men and women also exist within the same occupation.
