Summary of responsibilities

The Heavy vehicle driver drives trucks, semi-trailers, long-load dollies or other vehicles for the transport of transport goods, bulk materials or off-road equipment, or for use in public-works maintenance projects.

Education requirement

Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in trucking or a recognized equivalent. Drivers who transport hazardous material or dangerous goods must be certified by the employer

Condition of employment

A drivers licence appropriate to the class of vehicle being driven (class 1 and/or 3 licence) is required, except in the mining sector when the vehicles are not driven on public roads

Minimum experience generally required by level of complexity
