La rémunération du personnel en informatique dans les entreprises de 200 employés et plus des secteurs public et privé : qui sont les mieux rémunérés?

Employee recruitment and retention issues in the computer science field are a major concern for various public sector stakeholders. There are many causes for this phenomenon. The significant gap in compensation between private sector and public sector computer science employees is often cited as one of the causes. Is this opinion well-founded?

This article provides a portrait of compensation for certain jobs in the computer science field. Figures are broken down into three categories: all of Québec, the private sector, and the public sector. The latter includes the Québec government as well as municipal governments (cities with populations of 25,000 or more), federal government in Québec, government business enterprises from all three levels of government, and universities.

The data are derived from the 2011 Québec survey on total compensation (Enquête sur la rémunération globale [ERG]) carried out by the Institut de la statistique du Québec. Findings on compensation are interpreted using two different approaches: the National Occupational Classification and the ERG benchmark jobs.
